Harris, an electrical engineer and a prolific author on atomic and nuclear energy, ran as the 1978 Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional district of Maryland, which included northern Prince George's County and the Takoma Park region of Montgomery County. Gladys Noon Spellman (b. March 1, 1918, New York City, NY–d. June 19, 1988, Rockville, MD) graduated from the George Washington University (Washington, D.C.).
